(DLT) Dangerous Approaches, Landings, & Takeoffs

Flight Safety is an uttermost concern when flying dangerous approaches, landings, and takeoffs. Sunair wants to make sure our pilots have the most available data and information before you go out and try dangerous approaches, landings, and takeoffs from certain airports worldwide.

Special Information

  • Airport

Juneau International Airport covers an area of 662 acres (268  ha ) at an elevation of 25 feet (8 m) above mean sea level. It has one runway designated 8/26 with an asphalt surface measuring 8,857 by 150 feet (2,700 x 46 m). It also has one seaplane landing area designated 8W/26W, which measures 4,600 by 150 feet (1,402 x 46 m).

  • Runway and Airport

NOTE: The airport is hard soil and surrounding valley areas with mountains on the bay & river area. Asphalt runways,  RWY 8 You must decide on is a missed approach before the runway as RNAV breaks out to a LEFT turn as you go miss approach. ILS goes to a RIGHT turn on a missed approach before the runway. RWY 8 is the best-offset approach for PAJN – Juneau. RWY 25 is the other offset landing is not good as you enter the valley and is prohibited at night. Sunair company policy to land on RWY 8 and Takeoff RWY 26 into the winds.

So a flyby if the weather is bad for seeing and locating the runway. Some fog and weather can be bad from the 2 jet streams running down the mountain range from Alaska to Seattle, WA area, this brings in winds and weather quickly from the Bering Sea and the Pacific ocean.

Asphalt runway, always go 1 or 2 clicks higher in auto-brakes than normal for icy conditions. FULL auto-brakes may be required for weather conditions. Since short runway for larger aircraft operations.

Caution should be taken not to go off the runway or area airport surfaces. Also, be mindful of the surrounding mountain ranges too.
